January 2008- good month. Always hard to get over the "post holidays" and back to work, duldrums of where your brain took leave in December and start in on performance reviews/goal setting (how I wish I could list 'take more vacations and time off' in my 2008 professional goals).
Generally, we had a good month. The most memorable event of January was L's first trip to Emergency Room on Sun 1/20. L. tripped & fell at exactly the right place in our bedroom where I had pulled out my dresser drawer to get clothes for the day. He got a good "ditch" dug into his head about 2 inches higher than his hairline, given by the sharp corner of the dresser drawer. Not too much blood but enough to concern us that it wasn't 'superficial.' Thank god he has tons of hair to cover it up, but it did need a suture that remained for 10 days. Not just any suture, he got a STAPLE in his head. The rationale is that the staple is a 5 second thing to do, the stitches would've been more time for pain killer injection than stitching and L never would've gone for it. (uhhh. no kidding. Our well-child checkups send blood curdling screams from our exam room down the hallways.) Only a 90 min visit to ER and it cost Aetna a cool $1k for a staple.
As far as daily life- kids at daycare are absolutely stir crazy to be outside in the backyard of G's house, and she & assistants are at their wits' end with so many 2 year olds, not enough 'easy' babies, and too much time together in close quarters. Spring can't get here soon enough. Though, we are searching for a new daycare slash "pre-preschool" that is better suited to 'higher academic standards' than current arrangement, as much as it pains me to leave G's house. It's time to move on. Whenever we might have another child, he/she will go back there so it isn't TOO bad that we won't be back. Though, I told G. that any impressions she formed in L's first days (regarding my tendency to cry leaving my child) will be far eclipsed by my tears on his last day, two quick years later. She said she'll join me in that one. Which is nice. She doesn't have to say that. I know he's single-handedly given her a few bad days recently. YES.. 'El diablo' peaks his head from time to time, and I've almost come to dread 'pick-up' time in case we get a not-so-good report. A little too early to be getting notes home from the teacher, in my view.
Feb has been a FUN one. I'll be sorry to see it go- except for the cold weather. Three kids' bday parties (Thomas A., Molly S., Kieran M.), JT trip to North NJ for godson KM's party, two bridal showers (one couple shower for PR & JT, and one family shower in PA for JC. That is upcoming this wknd & not a surprise- thank goodness, I would've just ruined it) and then Super Bowl party at D&N's house. In no particular order. But, that is alot of cake for one month, so thank goodness spring will be here for more outdoor activities and exercise. And then we have wedding season with three fun weddings to look forward to. Come mid- June, though, our social calendar is WIDE OPEN thus far.
This pic is from last night, one small indication of child labor around our home. L had a BLAST w/ these newfound toys he dug out of the coat closet and got our floor clean after dinner at the same time. We might be able to save our $ with no more house cleaning service if this continues. He also likes to push the Swiffer around, if you're interested in a little bit of help around the house, we could arrange something. Moving light furniture is also a favorite pastime. The affinity for cleaning is a direct gene from his maternal grandfather. That gene has skipped a generation, apparently.
Reminder: my earthlink email is deceased. Use tobinj318@cox.net instead, going forward.
Thanks and happy 'leap year' day coming up! I'll write more in March. (no lie, I will do it).
