1) Had to start monitoring blood sugar & watching carbs b/c I borderline failed the 3 hour glucose tolerance test (and obviously the 1 hour test 2 wks ago, too) given around now in pregnancy. Great. I let it go to my head that I was sailing along this pregnancy just a little too easy, apparently. Something had to creep up. Two of the 4 readings during those 3 hours were great, the other high, though close, and one flat out failed.
So, here I am. Ack! I have gained about 1/2 the weight at this point that I gained with Logan's pregnancy at same 30 wk marker- feeling better than I did with him- if at all possible b/c he was a "good fetus", too. Well, whatever I can do to avoid another 9lb+ baby is fine with me (though blood sugar was fine with #1 kid's gestation!) I can truly see the advantages of reducing all carbs (the FUN yummy kind and the other hidden ones, too) in regular non-preg diet, too- I hope to give it a whirl come Sept/Oct and beyond.
Well, I was at a dr appt yesterday- it all pays off. I posted no weight gain in past 2 wks (always like that) and they are just not overly concerned with any of this. So, while I take it seriously, I'm going off their cue and lack of panic and have cooled my jets/ doing all things reasonable. Which, yes- means no more McD sweet tea. Which.... I think set me on this path in the past several weeks anyway, so it is OUT. O-U-T out.
2) Big reunion wknd with Graham side for 7/4- all McGuigan cousins in town for big #50 anniversary, surprise party for Aunt M and Uncle B. Great time seeing everyone Fri-Sat nights and most points in between, some I hadn't seen since Dec 2002 at a "certain" wedding. Pictures of past wknd with cousins to follow. (I say that alot, huh?)
3) Our air condition at home conked out Fri 7/4 @ some point. Failure was in outside unit, which is less than 5 yr old. Luckily, it was repairable and not too expensive and I'm about to send in paperwork to mfgr on the part that should still be covered by 5 yr warranty with a sternly-worded, yet professional, letter about how we'd expect this to be covered by them and here is the address they can send reimbursement to. Haha. It can't hurt to try. Unfortunately, they can't reimburse us on the loss of sleep or general discomfort & grumpyness of all 3 of us being too hot. Thank god for ceiling fans, the repair guy actually had the part in his truck, and no days over 92 degrees. Could've been so much worse.
4) Logan got no less than 3 splinters in his foot from wood deck at pool on Sunday. Two BIG ones I was able to get out and the others are so micro we didn't know they were there for 2 more days(ie, is that a spec of dirt or something?) and will make their way out as I work on his feet over days. He doesn't know they are there, either. WELL, you try to dig out two big splinters from 2yr old's foot ... in a non-airconditioned home! C. was instrumental in L's physical restraint, as well as a popsicle and an extra dose of Little Einsteins. And I was a lot quicker with #2 splinter than #1. But more than one of us were in tears when it was over- you pick who I'm talking about. His barefoot was sensitive for few days while site(s) healed, but shoes and socks worked wonders while at school.
5) the GREATEST news: we're happy to announce the birth of Mr. Luke Richardson-Escudero, the son of proud (and C's best friend/Logan's godfather) "Uncle Matt" and Mayte! Luke arrived yesterday, Wed 7/9 @ 4:02pm, a little over 7lbs and he/mom worked hard to deliver and did very well. Despite a few false alarm trips to hospital in preceding 48 hours and contractions, as well as *fun* text & email message updates to us @ all hours, since Sunday night. C. went last night to hospital to meet him and Logan and I will look forward to going to see him in next days once he and Mom get home. Doesn't hurt to have new baby in "family" about 10 wks before we'll have our own, living with us, for you-know-who to spend some time with and learn about.
Please, please... let next 7 days be a bit more "normal." Though, points 2 and 5 above were great ones!
