Last week was techno-week in our house. Among other themes. Our new phase in personal computing has started, working off two computers now, and I'm vacating the desktop. Slowly. I need to go get one of those "Easy Transfer" cables tomorrow from Staples or such, then I can move the pictures, documents and music over to the new laptop, and finish the transition process. Email export, and then re-import on the new hardware is done, that was most critical. I tried to set up our home network through the wireless router to try to transfer the files that way- is a “no can do” for reasons I won't get into. So, the long and the short is that all of our pictures are still on the old machine, I'm blogging from the new machine and end result- no pictures on this post.
Simultaneously, I was able to get the new Blackberry going, so that is receiving my email, voicemail, texts, “critical” FB friend updates, etc. In fact, for someone who resisted the Blackberry b/c I didn't want to be SO connected- now, I have to say I love it. I'm never outside of 20 minutes of receiving my latest email- no matter where I am. Like such important emails are going to come to me? Not really. But will reduce need to log in to personal email from computers devoted solely to.. work?
I’m done with 3 weeks of new job, is going fairly well. Metro wasn’t working well for me after the first week- so unreliable w/their delays and took too long with parking lots and daycare pickup routine, so I drive in now and have a parking contract at a garage about 4 [generous] blocks from the office. Is pretty much the same monthly cost as Metro, and I venture to say it’s at least 15 min. less commute each way. Getting used to that, basic work processes and systems- consider it a successful transition. Just glad its starting to feel a little less painful every week. Though, Sun PM/Monday AM will still take me some time to adjust. And unfortunately we’ve already had to test out the “sick kid” coverage, with supreme-oh care and much appreciated coverage by “Grandparents Graham” and Chris- BOY OH BOY.. have we. Week 2 of work- it was Austin with bad head cold, low grade fever (not even that much, but really not himself and rightfully miserable.) He missed 3 1/2 days of daycare that week. Week 3-Austin returns healthier on Monday, did great. Monday night/early Tues AM, Logan gets sick (threw up, & fever). He was out with stubborn fever and head cold that kept him out until Friday AM. We’re hoping all this is not a sign of what is to come this winter but instead, a “get it out of your system now” exercise for our household.
Well, I’m going to call it a night and turn in. Chris is away on annual “Mancation” wknd of golf and laughs and ridiculous other antics with best pals MR & PR. He has been loyally calling home to check in on us, but still having a great time. The boys are being relatively good for me, our day today was packed but tomorrow a little less so and up to some lazy Sunday/play moments. Though, I have some ideas of tasks I’d like for us to do. I’m also feverishly preparing my inventory for the AUMC Fall Consignment sale next Saturday, where I’ll be unloading ALL of our baby clothes that Austin is done with and left over gear not yet sold on CraigsList. Huge effort based upon volume of stuff I’m trying to unload- probably a wash with amount of time I’m sinking into it and how much I’ll earn, vs. just giving away the stuff. Oh well-is ok. Will surely meet other moms and “expand my horizons” by being involved in such a venture.
Looking forward to my first federal employee/contractor holiday this coming Wednesday 11/11 for Veterans Day. I have my day scheduled to the hilt, but will still enjoy the mid-week personal breakout.
